On my days off....

Well life has calmed down since my last post. You may wonder why I'm up on my day off at 9:40...the simple answer is that my sister woke me up so we could talk before she had to go to work...and now I CANT get back to sleep :(

Anyway, speaking of leslie, she's going to be in "Godspell" this summer--she got a really good role so that'll be good.

HOWDEEEEEE....so "HTA" brush-up rehearsal was last night...it was really weird to run the show we did a month ago without anything, very funny though, I actually missed a cue hahaha whoops! I barely could remember "Rocky Top" but the second run-thru went much better than the first! So now I'm back in Falmouth, we have another rehearsal tonight and dress on thursday night after my matinee and the actual excerpts on Saturday...whew. I like staying busy though, Falmouth is pretty boring and it's nice to have to be somewhere other than the theatre for a change.

OH, I was incredibly sunburnt from my previous post...so bad that Robert took a picture, which is the picture above. I didn't even realize how bad it was til I got to the theatre and everyone in "Guys and Dolls" freaked out over it.

On another note, it's been so much fun to do a show with my buddy Robert. We're "dance class buddies" but it's been great to get to do this show together--too much fun (and waaaaay too many inside jokes to count! hehe) Anyway, so the other night we went out to eat, robert had had a few drinks and came up with the catchphrase "it's Robert mother-f---- Scott Fields, Megan bitch!" the way he said it was so funny that I made him record it so it's his ringtone on my phone! (which was kinda pointless seeing as I practically live with my phone on vibrate). ANYWAY, so I was playing the audio for one of my friends at the theatre when all of a sudden (in the middle of the worst part of that audio) this little old woman who helps work tickets came out of the elevator! I nearly died laughing, and Patrick could barely contain himself--we could tell she had heard it, it was so embarressing but very funny at the same time. WHY do those things happen to me?! lol

4 hours.

WOW. WOW. WOW.

Ok, so yesterday after a crazy tired matinee, I left to go do a really easy babysitting job, I got half way there and my car started making a gargling sound. The wheel locked up and it started smoking. Needless to say, I FREAKED out. I didnt know what to do so I drove to the nearest Valvoline in Alexandria, KY. The people there were super sweet and told me it was the belt in my car--apparently it had ripped and that causes basically the car to work. Also something else was wrong with it...anyway, so I dropped it off there and they said they'd fix it and it'd be ready in the morning. So I went and hung out at Tyler's and swam and such...so much fun. ANYWAY. So I woke up this morning early waiting for the call only to hear "Ma'am, we dont think we can fix this--we dont have the resources"--I was furious and ready to rip Valvoline. So Tyler drove me down there, and they were apologetic and went above and beyond to get my car repaired. They called an auto store, had an employee get it, gave me a discount, calmed down the Tow Truck guy from Triple A that had been there for 1 hour and were just overall so great. So anyway, after an hour trip back to Falmouth with the tow truck guy (AWKWARD), I had to walk from the car service place back to where I'm staying....it's 92 degrees. AND I'm sunburnt from all of this.

2 day break!

YES. finally--things are back to being planned :) Apparently, I'm going to be housesitting on my week break in July from the show...soooo excited about that, the dog is so sweet and easy to take care of PLUS getting to use the pool is always a perk! AND I get to be a counselor at the Paddlewheel kids' musical theatre camp in Indiana the week I get home from "Guys and Dolls"--ladies and gentleman, a PLAN for some of the rest of the summer! Exactly what I needed!

Anyways--"Guys and Dolls" has been going well, some opening night glitches, but on a whole, good opening. I got to bed last night at almost 4 AM and a few of us did the show on not much sleep at all but in all, the matinee audience was very vocal--ESPECIALLY when we rip our gowns off in "Take Back Your Mink"-wow. So now we have a 2 day break from shows, I'm basically babysitting for the entire time..yay for making some money!

Opening!

Opening tonight! Whoohoo for no more notes and just getting to enjoy it at this point!
Anyway, so last night we had our last dress that went soo much better than Thursday's dress. No wardrobe malfunctions (haha) or anything, except for some missing dice...(john? lol) So that seemed to go over well. I love having tons of downtime in the 2nd Act...plenty of time to...take PICTURES! Our costumes are cute as can be, I've never seen a production where the Hot Box girls get such amazing costumes!

So Assembly last night...2 Amaretto Sours and were they just water or something? very weak. After ordering an LIT, taking a sip, i realized that I just couldn't stomach it and gave it to Robert...we then proceeded to sing Reba and Linda Davis' "Does He Love You?" to Falmouth...haHA.

oh well...time to relax, enjoy the day!

for real?

oh dear LORD. ugh. I think that says it all right there.

I hate when you plan something and then it falls through--especially when money is involved...today was just one of those "really? really?" kinda days....and then rehearsal slightly fell apart, it'll be fine but I am growing so thankful for people that are keeping me sane, such as my sister Monica (cause I know you're going to read this soon). I can't wait to be your roommate...p.s. your clothes are cute (haHA, you understand what I mean...I'm sooo glad I'm not alone in that whole realm!). AND my little Robert whom I adore and dances up a storm and said, "do I really give a fuck about the damn palm tree?" WHOOPS. I love tons of other people but these two really made me smile today...oh, and Patrick did a good impression of how I grab my boobs in "Mink"...if only i could upload that video. ha.

OH and I dodged a major bullet(figuritively)...I should always trust my instinct. Always.

And so it begins...

hahahHA, and the embarressing incidents begin:
tonight I completely wiped out after "Take Back Your Mink", butt on ground, the works, but the worse part was that there was a slight "wardrobe malfunction"--one of my assets were barely exposed for a brief nanosecond and...yep. why do these things always happen to me? but still, very funny lol

we start dress rehearsals tommorow--opening is in 2 days, we added hair and makeup and some costumes tonight, and all us hot box girls have come to the conclusion we have all been born in the wrong era, as it should have been the 1940s! but all in all, despite some difficulties, the show should be really good and once we open, all stress will be behind all of us.

More.

I was awakened this morning by the most intense thunderstorm I've ever witnessed--seriously, the thunder was literally shaking the windows of my room. Anyway, what can you do at that point other than just lay there?

So I don't mean to get all "I've had some thoughts about thunderstorms--here they are..." BUT as I was lying there, I got this feeling about how intense but incredibly peaceful thunderstorms are. Reason being--you know that it's going to pass...eventually. That's so true in my own life, whether that has been a brokeness about something, or doubts/insecurities or even something that deals with things that are too personal to discuss even on my blog.

My good dancer friend Robert and I left the theatre after rehearsal last night (which lasted almost 5 hours--we start dress on thursday). And sat outside our cars and talked about how right now we both have this overwhelming sense of "I want to do something more than what I am right now"--in a lot of aspects of life. Just MORE. And how hard it is to let things go and just trust that eventually that will happen. That this will pass. Like how a thunderstorm eventually subsides....:) Same is true for another good friend of mine who is upset over his current situation--I remember being 17/18 and feeling my world was crashing over so many things, I look back now, as a 21 year old and I see that the things that tore me up were things I learned from and grew from, and eventually made me this person I am today.

have you ever realized?

Have you ever realized that you've become one of "those" people? Like, take hummus for instance...I used to make fun of people who ate this stuff, I said it looked like throw up and would never touch it. And now it's number 1 on my grocery list everytime I go in Krogers.

Same with country music. I used to completely make fun of the lyrics of songs along with the rest of my non-country listening to family etc. And now I've done 2 country shows and I found myself singing "Fancy" at karaoke at a bar near the theatre last Friday night.

Just a thought.

$75? Say what?

VICTORY. I found 2 inch black t-strap character shoes for $42 in LOUISVILLE. Ohio has let me down--no store had my size and the ones that did were like, "oh, that'll be $75"--$75 for someone who doesn't do a lot of dance shows?....eh, I'm thinking "no" lol So my mom is having to overnight them to me...she's really thrilled about that lemme tell you. haha, oh well.

Anyway, we open in a week and it's starting to come together, I'm a little sad to have missed the Tony's last night but it's starting to really work out. I'll be thrilled for us to actually open so I can get a majority of my nights back--I love that we have so many matinees, waaay more free time!

So "Honky Tonk Angels", we start rehearsals again in a few weeks for ACT. haha, a few nights/afternoons will be "Guys and Dolls" in the day and then "HTA" at night, what a difference! fun though.

watching the Tony clips on youtube just added to my obsession with the new musical "9 to 5", I can't wait to visit Tyler in NYC and see it!

I spent the beginning of today (a total of 2 HOURS--waaaay too long in my opinion) changing my blog around, adding new things to make myself happy.
Still loving how amazing "Chorus Line" is--I've been listening to the music mostly all day and catching up on reading old blog entries.

My best friend (since I was 5) is engaged. Sooo happy for her, we used to plan her wedding when we were 12, I can't believe in a year it'll be for real.

Anyway--we did a run-through of the show today which seemed to go pretty well, except now I have to go get some t-strap character shoes that I cannot afford, whoops! I'm going to call around tommorow--PLEASE god let someone have some in my size!

I've been on a Sara Bareilles kick lately (although Kala introduced me to Lady Gaga and now I'm a fan). That's what this new blog is called, off her "Many the Miles" song. I was thinking the other day about all the different types of people I've met at all of the theatres I've worked for, what an eclectic group lol Some good, some bad, but all in all some really wonderful people to learn from. I've always been really thankful for non-egotistical people who show me how to be grounded and do what you love without losing a part of yourself. That's always so important, and that's what that song reminds me "many the miles...(too many sunsets I haven't seen)"--I mean, who knows where I'll be 5 years from now? But I do know this--up til this point in my life, I'm really thankful for the shows I've been a part of and the people. "many the miles".

Reading List....

So lately, since there is not much else to do in the day before rehearsal, I've taken to becoming a complete book worm. Here are some of my favorites as of lately:



Amazing memoir: A Little Bit Wicked from the ridiculously talented Kristen Chenoweth--lots of insight into her as a person, her friends, and how she got started in NYC. It's really interesting how much of her life has not been mentioned in interviews she has done. Also how many parts she didnt get because of a look, height etc.




Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult--mystery, actually I got hooked on it after watching the Lifetime movie with Mariska Hartigay...about an amish girl accused of killing her baby--surprise ending.



Eat Pray Love by the insightful Elizabeth Gilbert--about a woman who ends a love-less marriage and her journey to India to receive guidance. Perfect read if you feel like your life is mundane....beautiful story.



Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult--love story, but not. More about a tragic pattern of "love" and a woman strong enough to make a decision for her and her baby. LOVED IT.

ONE singular sensation!

WOW! What a great night! Tyler and I went to see the National Tour of "A Chorus Line" and it was amazing! Toooo much fun!

The Cassie was phenomeonal. not only did she belt her face off but she had extensions for days--unreal. I was surprised to see Val make it at the end--I didnt want her to, maybe they changed who made it for the revival cast? Anyway, the Paul was fantastic as well...even though i dont credit myself a dancer, I still really enjoyed it. it's such a good reminder to every performer i think. GOD i hope i get it.


It's our only night til the show opens and then my weekends are gone.

That first one was ridiculous but it's whatever. Character development? Anybody?

In other news, I decided to audition for Dollywood in Pigeon Forge next year for next summer--and the incredible Teresa is letting me use one of her cute country songs to audition with-YEY!

In other news....life is pretty damn good :)

P.S. we got our costumes last night for "mink"--basically black lingerie that leaves NOTHING to the imagination lol we're gonna sell out for sure!

21!

HELLOOOO BLOG from my bedroom!

Now I have wireless (just in time for my 21st birthday today!) Very exciting. Anyway--so the birthday bash at Bar Louie on the Levee is tonight after rehearsal-YES! I'm very excited--Robert and I had a "congrats on 21" birthday drink last night-Amaretto Sour. I was a complete nerd and wouldnt drink it til it was officially midnight and my birthday--I can't believe I'm already 21...where has it gone?

Well...off to get ready, then rehearsal....hopefully I'll remember it all!
